Shopify API Connection
Prepare Shopify Store Admin URL and Admin API Access Token for a Next-Cart migration service when Shopify API setup is shown.
Shopify API Connection
Section titled “Shopify API Connection”A valid Shopify API connection gives Next-Cart the authorized platform access required by the selected migration path.
Next-Cart may ask for your Shopify Store Admin URL and Admin API Access Token. Prepare these values from the correct Shopify store and use the current Shopify app-creation path available to your account.
When to use this guide
Section titled “When to use this guide”Use this guide when:
- Shopify is the Source Platform or Target Platform in your selected migration path;
- Next-Cart shows Shopify API setup;
- Next-Cart asks for Store Admin URL, Admin API Access Token, or related Shopify connection values.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”Before you begin, confirm that:
| Requirement | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Shopify store owner, staff, or collaborator access | The account must be allowed to manage apps and assign Admin API scopes. |
| Permission to create or manage a custom app | Shopify requires specific permissions for custom app setup and scope changes. |
| Scope decisions | You need to know which data types Next-Cart must access. |
| Correct store domain | The token must belong to the Shopify store shown in the migration path. |
| Secure storage | Admin API tokens must be copied only into approved secure locations. |
Required values
Section titled “Required values”| Required value | Where to prepare it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Store Admin URL | Shopify store domain | Usually uses the myshopify.com store domain requested by Next-Cart. |
| Admin API Access Token | Installed Shopify custom app | Generate or copy the token from the app setup path supported for your store. |
Prepare the API connection values
Section titled “Prepare the API connection values”- Sign in to the correct Shopify store.
- Confirm whether your store already has an existing admin-created custom app that can be used for this migration service.
- If you need a new custom app, use Shopify’s current custom app setup path through the Dev Dashboard or Shopify CLI, or follow the supported setup shown by Shopify for your account.
- Assign Admin API read access for the data included in the migration scope, such as products, collections, customers, orders, discounts, content, files, inventory, and other areas shown by Next-Cart.
- Install the app on the Shopify store when required by Shopify.
- Generate or reveal the Admin API Access Token.
- Copy the Admin API Access Token immediately into a secure temporary location.
- Copy the Store Admin URL or
myshopify.comdomain requested by Next-Cart.
Enter the values in Next-Cart
Section titled “Enter the values in Next-Cart”In the Next-Cart connection setup screen, enter only the values requested by the interface.
| Next-Cart field | Platform value |
|---|---|
| Store Admin URL | Shopify store admin URL or myshopify.com domain requested by Next-Cart. |
| Admin API Access Token | Token generated for the installed Shopify custom app. |
Expected result
Section titled “Expected result”The Shopify API connection values are ready to test in Next-Cart.
Verify the connection
Section titled “Verify the connection”| Check | Pass condition |
|---|---|
| Store match | The token belongs to the Shopify store shown in Next-Cart. |
| Scope coverage | Admin API scopes cover the selected migration data. |
| Token completeness | The full Admin API Access Token is copied without truncation or extra spaces. |
| Connection test | Next-Cart can authenticate and read supported Shopify data. |
If the connection fails
Section titled “If the connection fails”| Issue | What to check |
|---|---|
| Authentication error | Confirm the token belongs to the installed app for the correct Shopify store. |
| Missing data access | Review Admin API scopes and include the required data areas. |
| App setup unavailable | Confirm the account has permission to manage apps and use Shopify’s current custom app setup path. |
| Wrong store URL | Use the store domain requested by Next-Cart, not a different storefront or admin environment. |
| Token rotation needed | Follow Shopify’s current token replacement workflow. Existing admin-created app tokens may require app reinstall or replacement rather than simple rotation. |
Security cleanup
Section titled “Security cleanup”After migration work is complete and verified:
- remove or revoke temporary API credentials where the platform provides that option;
- reduce access if a broader permission set was used only for migration work;
- remove copied credentials from insecure notes, tickets, chats, or shared files;
- review the store admin account or API user used for API setup.
Next step
Section titled “Next step”| Goal | Go to |
|---|---|
| Test the connection | Verify Platform Connections |
| Fix an authentication or permission issue | Troubleshoot Connection Setup |
| Continue after the connection passes | Configure Your Migration |
